On April 27, Andriy Tymoshenko, Director of the “INFOTECH”, and his Deputy, Igor Gorodetskiy, participated in a live broadcast on the “Today Morning” project (Ukraine24 TV channel). There they revealed whether the pandemic affected the State-Owned IT sector of Ukraine and what IT specialists who lost their jobs should do.

According to Igor Gorodetskiy, against the backdrop of a general business activity decline, the need for new computer software has fallen drastically, which generally harms the IT industry both in Ukraine and around the world. However, in terms of redundancies, IT professionals remain to be in demand on the labour market and, as a result, they paid highly.

Due to the decline of demand for services in some Ukrainian companies, there is currently a shortage of tasks and work available even for full-time specialists. They deal with these issues by reducing the amount of the salary they receive or by letting some employees take a vacation at their own expense.

He also noted that in the absence of salary (albeit temporarily) some specialists started searching for another job. Therefore, the number of applicants on specialized job search websites increased significantly, while the number of vacancies decreased, which created an impression of mass layoffs.

“But there is no talk of a crisis of the size it is in the US IT industry, where more than 6,000 employees have been made redundant as a result of the closure of more than 50 startups” notes Igor Gorodetskiy.

As to the consequences of the pandemic for the State-Owned IT Enterprise “INFOTECH”, Director Andriy Tymoshenko noted:

“Our company has not made redundancies and layoffs and, I hope, this will not happen.”

Such stability is achievable because the company’s prime customers are the public authorities, that have not reduced their activity, but on the contrary, mobilized additional forces for a successful exit from the current situation.

As a State-Owned Enterprise, “INFOTECH” also introduced remote work for its software developers, making use of the amended Labor Code of Ukraine, shaping the company as an even more competitive employer and a comfortable place to work even during the time of crisis.

Summing up, Andriy Tymoshenko noted that “INFOTECH” continues to search for and hires “talents”:

“Vacancies are open and, if specialists who lost their jobs meet the requirements, please come join us. We are prepared to conduct interviews and involve you in our work on a competitive basis.”
