A new service has been introduced in the Unified Register of Persons Missing under Special Circumstances to speed up identification

Behind every report of a missing person is a family waiting for an answer. In wartime, the speed at which information is exchanged between government agencies and the specialists involved in the search and identification of individuals is often critical.

That is why, at the initiative of the Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, in cooperation with the State Enterprise “INFOTECH,” which maintains the Unified Register of Persons missing under special circumstances, a new functional module, “Ministry of Health (SMF) Office,” has been introduced for the work of forensic medical examination institutions.

From now on, authorized employees of forensic medical examination institutions can directly enter postmortem information regarding unidentified bodies and remains into the Registry. Specifically, this includes the date the body or remains were received by the institution, the results of the postmortem examination, distinguishing features, information about clothing, footwear, and personal belongings, as well as other data that may assist in identifying the individual. The new functionality also allows for the addition of photographic materials.

The launch of this service makes it possible to more quickly cross-reference postmortem information with data already contained in the Unified Register of Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, thereby helping to expedite the identification process.

At the same time, it remains crucial to populate the Registry with high-quality and complete data on persons missing under special circumstances. Tattoos, scars, physical characteristics, jewelry, documents, clothing items, or other distinctive features can be decisive in identifying a person.

The Unified Register of Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances is a vital state tool that helps consolidate the information necessary to search for people, determine their fate, and identify unidentified bodies and remains.
